If I have a stoma, how do I order my products?

Australia: Your Stomal Therapy Nurse will determine your eligibility to become a member of the Stoma Appliance Scheme (SAS) and assist you with the initial paperwork process of joining and obtaining your supplies. The SAS is federally funded and assists ostomates by providing fully subsidised (that means you do not pay for the stoma products) access to a large range of stoma related products on the scheme. You will receive a card with a unique Stoma Appliance Scheme entitlement number in the mail, so keep this card handy as you will fill in this number on each order form you submit for supplies.

The SAS products are distributed through 21 stoma associations across Australia. A yearly membership fee is paid to the association you choose to join and all products listed on the SAS can be ordered, usually every 1-2 months. Each product listed on the SAS has a unique product code and a monthly allowance. You will be shown how to complete an order form which you will then send to your association. The association will order your stoma products from the companies who supply them, receive them and package them up. They will tell you when they are ready for you to collect in person or you can choose to have them delivered directly to your home. A home delivery service costs an additional fee paid by you to the association.

New Zealand: Your Stomal Therapy Nurse will explain the process for accessing ongoing ostomy care and supplies. In New Zealand, your Stomal Therapy Nurse is responsible for ordering and supplying your products. In most District Health Boards (DHB) supplies will be delivered to your home address. Your responsibility is to monitor your supply and contact your Stomal Therapy Nurse promptly if you are either low on stock, over supplied or no longer require a product. If you are a New Zealand ostomate there is generally no cost to you for ostomy products or their delivery. Your Stomal Therapy Nurse will advise and assist you with the selection of products suitable for your needs.
